Today's post is coming to you a bit late because someone forgot to remove all the background noise in her video and didn't realize it until it was set to go live and had to redo the whole thing and then she had a typo on the opening screen and had to redo the whole thing again! features a bonus video showing my entire Paper Doll Art Journal, the album I use for my pages and a little bit about how and why I chose it. For my June 2015 Paper Doll Art Journal page I got a bit carried away and created a 2-page spread using three dolls: Riley, Candie and Chiara! The patterned papers for the girls' outfits and the awning on the ice cream cart are all leftover Doodlebug Summer 6x6 patterned papers from the June 2015 Simon Says Stamp Card Kit. The Doodlebug Summer Enamel Sprinkles made the perfect accessories for both the paper dolls and for the ice cream cart!
In addition to the Julie Nutting Riley, Candie and Chiara dolls, I used "hats" from both the Hats #1 and Hats #2 stamp sets for two of the dolls. The bunny ears from the Hats #1 stamp set was altered to make the blue headband.
Art journals are a great place to try out different skin and hair combinations with your markers or colored pencils! The color combinations I used are shown in the upper left corner of the screen of the how to video.
The Doodlebug Summer 6x6 patterned papers made the perfect bright and fun outfits for these dolls. I shaded the "clothing" with Warm Gray Copic Markers to give the outfits depth and dimension to match the dolls.
The ice cream cart made the page. The design is actually a lemonade stand from the Silhouette Online Store but it made the perfect little ice cream cart for this page design! The cart is filled with "goodies" from the Doodlebug Summer Enamel Sprinkles sticker sheet and the sign on the cart is a combination of stamps from the Simon Says Stamp Gnome For the Holidays and Ice Cream Dream sets.
I finished the page with another stamped phrase from the Simon Says Stamp Cone Building Stamp Set and a date from Kerri Bradford's Time Again Stamp Set.

I get asked about the text/dictionary paper I use for my dolls a lot. I am using text papers from my scrapbooking stash. A lot of them are old and are no longer available but I like to use up what I have on hand. I've done a search and found similar and current text papers that you might be interested in. Click any of the links below to start shopping:
The paper doll stamps average 8" in height and it can be a challenge to find an acrylic block that fits them in both width and height. I love this Prima Handle Block.
The album I've chosen for all my paper doll art journaling pages is THIS Brighton Pier Handbook Album from Studio Calico.

I absolutely LOVE your paperdoll series. I am hooked. I have done a couple 8 x 8 canvas projects but would love to get started with a journal like yours. Your imagination and creativity inspires me!

Love, love, love this page! Another one of your "creative classes" for sure. :-) I have one question though. My fussy cutting never looks as good as yours and I think it might be because of the scissors I'm using. What kind of scissors do you use or recommend for fussy cutting? Thanks again for sharing your beautiful art journal pages with us.

Thank you so much for the links! And thanks so much for showing how you arrange your images across the seam of the two pages. My scrapbook 2-pg-layouts will look much better now. :-)

Nichol..what a wonderful keepsake Art Journal. I really enjoy watching you create each month's dolls. You make it look so easy and fun. I know it's not easy...one must be really creative to make them like you do. Thanks for sharing the album.
