To bring these gorgeous Tim Holtz STAMPtember stamp set images to life I used a stamp positioner and Distress Markers to color in parts of the image at a time, repeatedly stamp them and layer colors until I was happy with the result. Then I stamped the entire image with a clear embossing ink and heat set the design with clear embossing powder before adding the background inking and color to complete the design.
The images from the Tim Holtz STAMPtember stamp set were colored in with Distress Markers and stamped on Bristol Smooth Cardstock, layering the colors until the image was colored the way I wanted. Once the image(s) was perfectly stamped, I cleaned the stamp and stamped the image again with clear embossing ink and heat set the image with clear embossing ink. A stamp positioner tool makes this super easy and you don't have to worry about lining up the image every time!
I inked over the entire background with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink and then stamped the music notes image repeatedly over the background for a tone-on-tone effect. Any ink sitting on top of the embossed area was easily removed with a dry paper towel.
The background was trimmed down into a thinner strip and greetings from the Tim Holtz STAMPtember stamp set were stamped on the dry background with clear embossing ink and heat set with Antique Gold Embossing Powder.
The backgrounds were adhered to white side fold card bases and framed up with thin strips of Lawn Fawn Paper Bag cardstock.
Snowflake sequins from Hero Arts and Honey Bee Stamps and mini gold star confetti were scattered throughout each background to complete the design.

Love this technique! Great inspiration for a card I have been thinking about for awhile, just did not know how to execute. Both are stunning cards!

These cards are so awesome, I love the way you used the stamps by colour them and than make that gorgeous background. Love them! Thank you for showing how you made these beauties, I saw them yesterday by Tim Holtz on FB Live and fell instandly in love with them.
I have a QUESTION, can you use the Zig markers the same way you used the Distress markers on the stamp?

Both cards are gorgeous but the first, seeing you do the bird, it just took my breath away. Beautiful job with these stamps. I wouldn't have remembered to color on the stamps as we often did years ago and my comfort level with coloring in the stamped image would have been zero. What a huge success using this technique was and how good to see that it takes patience, doing it over and over, to get those vibrant results. This has to be one of my favorite things I've ever seen you do and as a big fan of yours I've seen you do a lot of great work. TY!
