Welcome to the Simon Says Stamp Cheer & Joy Release Day 2 Blog Hop!
I am so super excited to share these two gnomes holiday card designs using lots and lots of brand new products from Simon Says Stamp. I'm using the Gnomes Dies, Merry Frames Dies, Christmas Foliage Dies, Snowflakes Stencil, Gnomes Stencil, Holiday Sweater Stencil, Holiday Greetings Mix 1, and Sentiment Strips Everything Winter! That's a lot of goodness right there, friends! Let's get started!
V I D E O T U T O R I A L
Watch the creation of these stencil layering and gnomes cards from start to finish below or click HERE to watch in HD:
Both of my cards today feature stencil layering, meaning more than one stencil was used to create a background or in the case of the second card, to create the focal point and the falling snowflakes! Layering stencils is a great way to add depth and dimension to your projects!
The die cut gnome card features a background stenciled with both the Holiday Sweater Stencil and Snowflakes Stencil. The Holiday Sweater Stencil was stenciled on a 4" x 5 1/4" panel of Hero Hues Paradise Cardstock with Hero Hues Blue Raspberry Ink. Hero Hues Sea Salt Reactive Ink was applied around the edges of the panel to soften them. The Sea Salt Reactive Ink was also used to stencil snowflakes over top the holiday sweater design.
The Merry Frames Die was die cut from smooth white cardstock, Lawn Fawn Fog Cardstock, and Hero Hues Cherry Cardstock. The greeting was assembled and adhered to the layered stenciled background as shown. A Sentiment Strips Everything Winter phrase was trimmed into a thin strip and adhered to the card with foam adhesive.
The Gnomes Die was die cut from Hero Hues Peony Cardstock, Hero Hues Azalea Cardstock, Lawn Fawn Fog Cardstock, and smooth white cardstock. A tone-on-tone design was added to the gnome hat with the Gingham Background Stamp and Doll Pink Ink. The nose was colored in with E00, E11, and E13 Copic Markers. Shading was added to the beard with W1, W2, W4, W6 Copic Markers. RV10 and RV11 were used to add shading to the gnome outfit. The gnome was assembled on the background piece as shown. The azalea polka dots were inlaid into the peony outfit. A pom pom was glued to the top of the hat to complete the gnome.
The Christmas Foliage Dies were die cut from Hero Hues Cherry, Kiwi, and Meadow cardstock. The greenery was shaded with YG25 and YG17 Copic Markers and the pieces were tucked around the gnome base as shown. Nuvo Crystal Drops in White Blizzard were applied to the berries as well as the stenciled snowflakes in the background. A white pen was used to add detail to the gnome's nose.
For the stenciled gnomes card I lightly drew in the Gnomes Stencil shapes using the on smooth white cardstock. I will erase the pencil lines as I stencil the images but they serve as a great "place holder" to see what the design will look like. Just like when creating a masked stamped design, we want to stencil the images in the foreground first and work our way back.
Starting with the noses, I erased the pencil lines and then stenciled the noses with Lawn Fawn Peach Fuzz Ink. I traced the nose image on Masking Paper, cut out the mask, and placed it over the inked nose.
Next I erased the beard pencil lines of the gnome in the center and stenciled his beard with Simon Says Stamp Fog Ink. I traced the beard on Masking Paper, cut out the mask, and placed it over the inked beard.
The outfit in the center was inked with Hero Hues Taffy and Fruit Punch Inks. I traced the outfit shape on Masking Paper, cut out the mask, and placed it over the inked outfit. The hat was inked with Fruit Punch Reactive Ink.
For the blue gnome I used Pool Party and Blue Raspberry Reactive Inks for the outfit. For the green gnome I used Key Lime Fizz and Green Apple for the outfit.
Pool Party Reactive Ink was lightly inked around the edges of the panel and also used through the Snowflakes Stencil to add layered stenciled design to the scene.
A Holiday Greetings Mix 1 greeting was stamped with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with silver embossing powder.
Picket Fence Distress Paint was watered down and splattered over the panel for the illusion of "falling snow".
A Sentiment Strips Everything Winter was trimmed into a thin strip and adhered with foam adhesive to the card panel. Pom poms were glued to the top of the hats to complete the gnomes.
Nuvo Crystal Drops in White Blizzard were added to the center of the snowflakes and scattered throughout the background to finish the card.

Love these cards Nichol! I’ve been gone from stamping for several months. I have no clue what reactive inks are and what they can do. You posted the wrong video😢 for these cards. It happens. Hoping you made a video of these gnome cards and we get to see it. Great creation!
